HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Oswego took a 7-6 lead at 16:24, Buffalo State went on a 13-2 run over the next three minutes to lead 19-9 that forced a timeout from the Lakers.
- Out of the timeout, Carey drained a 3-pointer followed by a put-back layup by Brandan Gartland to cut the lead to five at the 10:43 mark.
- With 4:12 left in the half, the Lakers faced their largest deficit when they trailed 36-24, but two more Carey treys sparked an 11-2 run to get within 38-35. Buffalo State scored twice late to end up leading at the half 42-35.
- Carey came out hot in the second half from beyond the arc, knocking down three 3-pointers the first three minutes to move the Lakers back to within three at 47-44.
- It was a contest of runs, Buffalo State went back up 54-44 with just less than 15 minutes remaining, but an 8-0 run in only 63 seconds for the Lakers made it a game again. At the 11:36 mark, Tyler Pierre capped it off and tied the game 55-55 with a left-handed layup in the lane.
- The next possession, Carey's fourth 3-pointer of the second half gave the Lakers its first lead, 58-57. Buffalo State responded with a layup to regain the lead, but Carey's fifth 3-pointer and seventh of the game near the midpoint of the second half had the Lakers up 61-59.
- The Bengals would tie it up again, 61-61, but Pierre slammed home a dunk with 8:34 remaining and the Lakers would not surrender the lead from there.
- A 16-6 Laker run over the next six minutes had them leading 77-67 with a little over two minutes to go and they held off a few late 3-pointers from Buffalo State to win 84-78.
- After Carey went 3-for-10 from three in the first half, he shot 4-for-6 for seven 3-pointers made for the second time this season, just one shy of tying the program record.
- Pierre finished the game with 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting, including nine rebounds. Also getting it done was the Laker backcourt of Liam Sanborn (15 points, seven assists and four rebounds) and Gartland (11 points, eight rebounds, three assists).
- Forward Joe Sullivan grabbed a game-high 11 boards and went 3-for-4 from the free throw line.
- Oswego is 7-0 overall for the first time since 2015-16, and 3-0 in SUNYAC for the first time since 2014-15.
