OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State wrestling team split a pair of dual matches in a Saturday afternoon tri-match in Max Ziel Gymnasium. Against No. 4 Ithaca College, the Lakers fell 31-11 but rebounded to defeat Jamestown Community College 33-22. It was the Lakers' first dual matches of the year, sending their record to 1-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Three Lakers earned victories against the Bombers, starting with back-to-back wins at 165 pounds and 174 pounds.
- Trevor Hoffmier began the winning ways with a 15-0 shutout of Graden Alpert for five team points.
- The senior started hot with a takedown and a four-point nearfall.
- Hoffmier added an escape and a takedown in the middle period and finished the way he ended, with a takedown and four-point nearfall in the final two minutes.
- At 174 pounds, Troy Seymour triumphed by way of 7-2 decision.
- The senior used two takedowns, two escapes and a point for riding time to arrive at the final score.
- Ricardo Dawkins closed out the Laker scoring with three points for a 5-3 decision at 197 pounds.
- Dawkins trailed 3-2 heading to the second period but quickly changed his outlook with a reversal to regain the advantage.
- The junior earned another point for riding time to complete the comeback.
- Against Jamestown, Seymour picked up another decision with a 4-1 victory over Daniel Torres.
- Bryce Reed had the Lakers' lone pin on the day, dropping Jamestown's Wyatt Holley in the opening period (2:22) of the 197-pound bout.
