OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team lost to the Blue Devils of Fredonia on Saturday afternoon at the Max Ziel Gymnasium by a score of 66-50. Oswego's records falls to 7-16 overall and 4-12 in conference action while Fredonia goes to 9-15 (7-10).
Oswego found themselves down 6-0 early before
Erin Gantley scored on a layup then a 3-pointer to get the scoring started for the Lakers.
Rachael Windhausen then scored eight of her own inside over the final six minutes of the quarter to make the game 16-16 after one quarter.
After
Courtney Ameele hit a pair up jumpers early in the second quarter to keep the score tied at 20, Fredonia's Jenna Einick scored nine points in a Blue Devil 19-10 run to help the visitors take a 39-30 lead into the half. Fredonia shot a blistering 59.3% in the first half.
In the third, Oswego would cut the lead to five on a Gantley layup and 3-pointer, but Einick would answer right back with her own five-point run to push the lead back to 10 points and help Fredonia take a 50-41 lead heading into the fourth.
The Lakers would score first on a pair of Ameele free throws to start the fourth, but a seven-point run would extend the Blue Devil lead to 14 points. After the lead got cut back to single digits on layups by
Zana Dillard and Windhausen, Fredonia scored the next nine to ice the game.
Ameele led the Lakers with 17 points while Windhausen (11) and Gantley (10) joined her in double figures. Einick led all scorers with 25 points.
The women's basketball team is back in action on February 16 when they host the Brockport Eagles at 5:30 p.m.
