Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Lakers Down Knights; Herlihey Earns 100th Point

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 4/4 Oswego State men's ice hockey team defeated No. 7/7 Geneseo in a thriller on Friday night. Mitch Herlihey led the way with two goals, earning a spot in the Oswego history books by becoming the 56th player in program history with 100 career points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego opened the game with three goals in less than a 12-minute span during the first period.
  • AJ D'Orazio deflected a pass into the net to begin the scoring at 4:36 of the first period. Mitch Emerson and Aaron Huffnagle both earned assists on the play.
  • Less than two minutes later, Josh Zizek sent a puck to Herlihey, who slapped it past the diving Knight goalie. It was Zizek's team-leading 17th assist of the season.
  • With just under five minutes left in the first period, Cameron Berry and Emerson teamed up in front of the Knight net, with Berry ultimately stuffing the puck past the Geneseo goalie on a power-play. Defenseman Chris MacMillan also had an assist on the play, his third of the season. 
  • After a scoreless second period for both squads, Geneseo notched back-to-back goals int he final period to cut the Laker lead to one at 3-2.
  • With 19 seconds remaining, Herlihey scored a empty-net goal from center ice to put the game in the win column. The empty netter also represented the senior's 100th career point.
  • Laker goalie David Richer player all 60 minutes in net, making 21 saves. Richer and Oswego killed all five of their penalties on the night. 
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Lakers return to action at 7 p.m. on Saturday as they travel to Brockport, N.Y. to face the Golden Eagles. It will be Oswego's final away game of the regular season.
