Oswego Suffers A Tough Home Loss

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oswego State women's basketball team fell to Buffalo State on Friday evening at the Max Ziel Gymnasium by a score of 56-44.   With the loss, the Lakers go to 7-15 overall and 4-11 in the SUNYAC while the Bengals improve to 9-13 (6-10).

Buffalo State came out strong by scoring the first 13 points of the game on three straight 3-pointers and then a pair of buckets.  The teams traded baskets over the final four minutes to put the Bengals up 18-6 at the end of the first quarter.  Oswego's offense picked up with 12 points in the second quarter, but Buffalo State pushed out to a 36-18 lead at halftime.

The second half started exactly the same as the first when Buffalo State hit three 3-pointers in a row to open up the scoring and push their lead out to game-high 27 points.  The Lakers would make a pair of 6-0 runs in the quarter to cut the deficit back to 17 points, but the Bengals maintained control.

Oswego scored the first six of the fourth, capped with a Courtney Ameele three to cut the lead to 51-40 with 5:45 left.  A few minutes later, a Quincey Zimmerman 3-pointer would get the deficit under 10 points at 53-44 with 1:45 remaining but Oswego could not complete the comeback.

Ameele led Oswego in scoring with 15 points while Zimmerman and Rachael Windhausen scored nine each.  Zana Dillard had a game-high 16 rebounds.

The Lakers are back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. when they take on Fredonia at home in SUNYAC play.
