CLERMONT, Fla. – The Oswego State softball team split its two games on the first day of the Sunkissed Games in Clermont, Fla on Monday. First, Oswego defeated William Paterson University, 9-3. In the nightcap, Oswego fell to No. 16 Ithaca College, 11-4. With the split, the Lakers move to an even 2-2 on the season.
In game one, Oswego quickly erased a one-run deficit in the first inning. The middle of the lineup did much of the damage, with
Angela Frampton and
Sarah McCullough each smacking doubles to the outfield to put the Lakers up, 3-1.
Both teams were quiet the next few innings, with Frampton making quick work of the Pioneer lineup, before the Lakers unleashed an offensive explosion in the fifth. Frampton and McCullough knocked in three more runs, and
Emily Knowlden followed up by sending them both home to give Oswego an 8-2 lead. McCullough notched her game-high fourth RBI in the next inning for Oswego's final run.
Frampton earned the win on the mound against William Paterson, allowing three runs in six innings.
Rebecca Vilchez threw a perfect inning of relief, striking out all three batters she faced.
In the Lakers' second game, McCullough and Frampton continued to drive in runs. After Frampton walked and
Jessica Roe singled in the second inning, McCullough knocked them in with a single to center field. In the third,
Erin Sweeney reached base on an error and came around to score on a double by Frampton. Two innings later, McCullough was at it again, driving in Roe once again.
Vilchez received the loss against Ithaca, allowing eight earned runs in three innings. Roe threw three scoreless innings of relief for Oswego.
Next, the Lakers will continue to take part in the Sunkissed Games when they face Washington College at 11:15 a.m. and Webster University at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
