Lakers Win Game 1 Behind Vilchez, But Lose Game 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Oswego State softball team split its two games on Tuesday. Oswego opened the day by defeating Washington College, 4-1. In game two, the Lakers fell to Webster, 4-2.

Oswego's pitching was the highlight of game one. Rebecca Vilchez dominated on the mound for the Lakers, throwing six innings while surrendering only a single unearned run. The sophomore struck out four, earning the win. Angela Frampton came in to pitch the final inning for Oswego, striking out one and not allowing a run to earn the save.

Vilchez helped her own cause in the first inning, giving the Lakers an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly that scored Erin Sweeney. Later in the inning, Oswego capitalized on a Shorewoman mistake when Jessica Roe came around to score on a passed ball.

Oswego's final two runs of the game came in the third inning. Gabriella Vertuccio sent a single up the middle to bring home Frampton and Roe and give Oswego a 4-1 lead.

In game two, the Lakers looked for a seventh-inning rally with Webster up 4-0. First, Sweeney mashed a triple to right field to score Allison Hallett. Then Roe singled up the middle to knock in Sweeney. The Lakers were unable to top the Gorloks though, and the game ended with a 4-2 score.

Frampton pitched all seven innings for the Lakers, allowing two earned runs. The junior struck out six Webster batters.

Next, Oswego will have a day to rest before returning to action at the Sunkissed Games. On Thursday, the Lakers face Eastern Connecticut State at 9 a.m., followed by Arcadia University at 11:15 a.m.
