OSWEGO N.Y. — The No. 14/19 Oswego State baseball team narrowly fell to St. John Fisher College, 3-2, in 11 innings on Tuesday evening. Oswego moves to 16-6 on the season with the loss, while St. John Fisher improves to 15-7.
Starter Ronald Loomis and his Cardinal counterpart battled for the first three innings, but both teams struck in the fourth. A sacrifice fly put the Cardinals on the scoreboard in the top half, but the Lakers quickly answered with two runs of their own.
First, Mike Dellicarri led off the inning by launching his team-best fourth home run of the season, tying the game. The next batter, John Barnes, sent a single to left field and moved into scoring position on a grounder by Eli Holton. Myles Kutscher then singled to left field as well to drive in Barnes and give Oswego the lead.
Neither team scored again until the eighth inning, when a defensive miscue allowed St. John Fisher to tie the game. Laker relievers Bobby Zywicki and Matt Bowman kept Oswego in the game during extras, but defensive issues eventually cost Oswego the game in the 11th inning.
The Lakers remain at home for more nonconference action when they host the University of Rochester at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
