Lakers Battle, But Narrowly Fall to Cortland

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team fought hard against No. 19 Cortland, but eventually fell with a final score of 13-10. With the outcome, Oswego moves to 8-5 on the season and 4-3 in SUNYAC action, while Cortland improves to 11-4 overall and 6-0 in conference games.

Oswego and Cortland were locked in a back-and-forth battle throughout the contest. The Lakers jumped out to an early lead with three unanswered goals to start the game, but Cortland managed to score four of its own in response. At halftime, Cortland held a narrow 6-5 lead.

The Lakers came out strong in the second half, scoring the first two goals to take a 7-6 lead. The lead changes continued early on in the latter half, but four goals by Cortland with under eight minutes to go gave it a lead that would remain for the rest of the game.

Reigning SUNYAC Goalie of the Week Angela Ponto played all 60 minutes in the net for Oswego. The senior stopped 16 of the shots she faced, finishing the day with a .552 save percentage.

Teresa Shattuck and Toni Laneve each recorded a hat trick against Cortland, tying for the game-high with three goals apiece. SUNYAC Athlete of the Week Brigid Regin followed behind Shattuck's game-high six points with four of her own, off of a goal and three assists. Riley LaCava, Montana Garrett and Kamryn Sherman also contributed a goal each.

Oswego remains at Laker Turf Stadium this week, continuing its four-game homestand when it hosts Buffalo State at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
