OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oswego State Volleyball team picked up a pair of victories to kick off their annual home tournament on Friday evening. The team defeated SUNY Canton by a 3-1 score before downing D'Youville in straight sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Oswego offense got off to a slow start in the Canton match with only seven kills to the Roos' 12 in the opening set.
- In sets two and three, the Oswego defense held Canton to single digit kills while putting up 13 and 11 of their own.
- Leading the charge was sophomore Melissa Lussier with nine kills and junior Shauna O'Flaherty who had seven while hitting .353 in the match.
- The Lakers got a big lift from senior libero Jessica Long who came off the bench and served four aces and freshman libero Skylar Bechard who had five to go along with her 12 digs.
- Oswego out-blocked Canton 12-5 with Alison Sullivan and Lauren Fie each getting five.
- In the second match, serving was again key to the Laker victory as Oswego had an 18-0 edge in aces with Mira Legnon-Bozman, Julia Flohr and Lussier each collecting four.
- Junior Sarah Massie had six kills to pace the offense and freshman Julia Pacitto had three kills on only four swings.
- Setter Alison Berger had 10 assists and a pair of aces in the match.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers return to Max Ziel tomorrow for the second day of the Oswego State Tournament. Oswego faces Elmira College at 11 a.m. and at 3 p.m. the team takes on St. Lawrence University.
