POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Oswego State Volleyball team came out of the gates strong, but faded in a four-set defeat to the Brewers of Vassar College on Friday evening.  Of the seven matches played by the Lakers this season, four have been against teams that appeared in the NCAA National Volleyball Championship Tournament in 2017.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Lakers got up 10-6 early in the first set and maintained the four-point advantage throughout the rest of the set to go up 1-0 in the match.
• Junior Sarah Braddon had three kills in the opening frame while Sarah Massie and Alison Sullivan added a pair.
• Oswego went down 5-0 in the second set but took a 13-12 lead on a kill by Sullivan.
• Two big serving runs by Vassar would flip the script and give the Brewers the equalizer and tie it at one set apiece.
• In the third, Oswego led 16-14 behind a pair of kills from Braddon and Sullivan before another six-point run by Vassar gave them control.
• Kills by junior middle hitter Lauren Fie helped keep the Lakers in it in the fourth set, but tough serving by Vassar clinched the match for the hosts.
• Junior Julia Flohr had another double-double with 18 assists and 11 digs while senior Jessica Long had 15 digs.

The Lakers return to the court tomorrow at Vassar for a pair of matches.  They take on the University of New England at 11 a.m. followed by the University of Scranton at 1 p.m.
