Four Late Goals Key Road Comeback for Lakers

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The No. 5/5 Oswego State men's ice hockey team used four goals in the third period from four different players to rally for a 4-1 victory over Elmira.  The win keeps the Laker unbeaten streak at six games with five wins and a tie during that span.

THE BASICS

  • LocationMurray Athletic Center Ice Arena – Elmira, N.Y.
  • Records:  Oswego 12-3-1 | Elmira 8-8
 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Elmira struck first 2:26 into the second period as they forced a turnover deep in the Oswego zone and snuck an unassisted goal past Cedric Hansen.
  • Oswego started the third period on the power play thanks to a slash by Elmira as the second period ended.  They got one good look on net before a boarding call turned it to a 4-on-4.
  • The Laker power play unit was crisp as they killed off all four Soaring Eagle man-up advantages, the last two without yielding a single shot.
  • Eight minutes into the third period, Oswego's Tanner Spink flipped a pass from the Oswego zone to center ice where Josh Zizek fended off the Elmira defender and tapped a pass to freshman Josh LeBlanc.  LeBlanc then broke into the Elmira zone all alone and flipped a shot over the Soaring Eagle goalie to tie the score at 1-1.  The goal was LeBlanc's third of the season.
  • Four and a half minutes later, Zizek collected a pass deep in Elmira's zone and snuck a pass into the middle to Travis Broughman who went top shelf for the goal and Laker lead.  The tally was Broughman's eighth goal and third game winner of the season, tying him with Zizek for the team lead in that category.
  • Oswego added an insurance goal just over a minute later at 13:25 as Max Novick scored his third goal of the season, unassisted.
  • The Lakers offense continued to pour it on as a shot through traffic from the left point made it to the back of the net off the stick of Jody Sullivan at 17:09.  Joey Scorpio and Josh Nenadal were credited with assists on Sullivan's third goal of the season.
  • Hansen made 20 saves in the triumph, improves his record to 5-0 and lowers his goals against average to 1.20 on the season.
  • Oswego outshot Elmira 27-21 and won the faceoff battle 37-30 with Zizek winning 13 and Mitch Emerson 10.
