OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team pushed visiting Cortland to overtime on Saturday, eventually succumbing to the Red Dragons, who own the conference's second-best record. A Laker goal in the final 10 minutes of regulation forced the game into extra time but a Cortland tally at 2:36 of the additional period concluded the contest.
THE BASICS
- Result: Cortland 2, Oswego 1 (OT)
- Location: Laker Turf Stadium – Oswego, N.Y.
- Records: Cortland 10-3 (3-1 SUNYAC) | Oswego 3-8 (1-3 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 1-0 with less than seven minutes remaining in the game, the Lakers were awarded a penalty corner. Oswego did not squander the opportunity, as sophomore Leah Romanowski sent in the corner to Kathleen Little at the top of the arc. The junior sent a shot towards the cage and classmate Theresa Glynn deflected the oncoming shot past the goalie to knot the game with 6:45 to play.
- It was Glynn's fourth-career goal and her second of the 2019 season. Little's assist was the eighth of her career and third of the campaign. Romanowski was also credited with an assist, the second of both her career and season.
- Cortland broke onto the scoreboard first at 20:07 and held the advantage for slightly more than 33 minutes.
- As a team, Oswego made nine saves on the day, seven of which came from goalie Erica Scheblein.
- The other two Lakers saves came from the defense as sophomore Abby Testo and freshman Megan Delaney each stopped shots on the goal line. Testo now has three defensive saves in her two-year career while Delaney has two in her rookie campaign.
