Lakers Tame Bengals on the Road

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Behind double-doubles from seniors Julia Flohr, Shauna O'Flaherty and junior Melissa Lussier, the Oswego State volleyball team defeated Buffalo State in straight sets on Friday evening.  The win moves the team record to 17-6 overall and 4-2 in SUNYAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-16 opening set behind four kills from senior Sarah Massie.
  • The opener was close throughout with Oswego ending on a 6-0 run.
  • Four blocks keyed a strong start to the second set as Oswego went up 10-5 early on.
  • The Bengals would tie the game back up at 11-apiece and the teams traded points until late in the set.
  • Down 20-21, a kill from Massie, aces from junior Emily Costa and Lussier sandwiched around two Bengal errors would close out the set 25-22.
  • The Lakers went up 8-2 and 16-9 in the third before an 8-0 run by the hosts would turn momentum around.
  • After a service error to sideout, a 4-0 run on sophomore Skylar Bechard's serve put Oswego up 21-17.
  • Kills by O'Flaherty and fellow senior Shannon Stone helped Oswego close it out at 25-20.
  • Flohr reached her double-double by way of 33 assists and 11 digs.
  • O'Flaherty (11 kills, 14 digs) and Lussier (13 kills, 15 digs) used attacking and defense for their's.
  • Stone and O'Flaherty each had five blocks in the match with Lussier adding four aces.
  • Costa (15 digs) and Bechard (6 digs) helped hold Buffalo State to an .085 (31-20-129) attack percentage.

The Lakers head down the road to take on Fredonia tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Dods Hall.
