OSWEGO N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team defeated the SUNY Canton Kangaroos by a score of 2-1.
Tia Trovato shined through in her first collegiate start for the Lakers stopping 14-of-15 shots faced and earning her first career win.
Kyleigh Grugin notched two points, including her first career goal on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lakers penalty kill shined going 2-for-2 and holding the 'Roos goal-less in the first period.
- The entire Oswego defense showed toughness in keeping SUNY Canton to only three shots in the first period.
- Oswego opened the scoring as Morgan Shines put home her second goal of the season, a back-door rebound from the shot of Grugin.
- The goal was also assisted by Maura McKeown for her first point of the season.
- Oswego dominated the power play in the second period as they scored their second goal when Grugin scored for her second point of the game, and was assisted by Avery Webster and Megan Teachout.
- SUNY Canton cut the lead in half, six and a half minutes into the third period, on a five-on-three advantage. The goal was scored by Sarah Kosnaskie, assisted by Ashley Gillies.
- Oswego outlasted a last-minute SUNY Canton surge as they pulled their goalie and had the extra skater in the final minutes of play, with Webster blocking the final shot of the night.
- The Lakers flexed their muscles in the faceoff circle, out-drawing the Kangaroos by a margin of 30-18.
- Amber Thomas led the way with 14 wins, followed by Mia Conboy's 6-for-7 mark.

The Lakers will travel North to faceoff against the Bears of Potsdam at 3 p.m. in another NEWHL matchup.
