Lakers Win to Move Into Second Place in NEWHL

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Behind a goal and an assist by freshman Megan Teachout, the Oswego State women's ice hockey team came back to win 3-2 over Cortland, handing the Red Dragons a second loss on the season. This win ties the Lakers for second place in the Northeast Women's Hockey League standings.

 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cortland struck first with 10:49 remaining in the first period on the power play.
  • With a one-timer on the power-play, Megan Teachout put it through the wickets with a great pass from the stick of Philomena Teggart at the point. This tied the game less than five minutes into the second period.  
  • Cortland retook the lead just under three minutes after the Lakers goal on a deflection from the point.  
  • At 16:56 of the second, Kate Randazzo took a shot from the point and junior Aislinn McAleer put home the rebound to tie the game for her second career goal.
  • Sara Cruise added her first point of the year with the secondary assist on McAleer's tally that made the score 2-2 heading into the final stanza.
  • With a dazzling pass from behind the net, senior Natalie Giglio grabbed her first assist of the year on the one-timed goal from the front of the net by Morgan Shines just 5:36 into the third period.  
  • Teachout moved into third place in team scoring with the other assist on Shines' goal, giving her nine points in her rookie campaign.
  • The Lakers out-shot the Red Dragons 10-3 in the third period, keeping the puck in the offensive zone for the majority.  
  • Rachael Farmer took the win by stopping 19 out of 21 shots that she faced.  
  • Mia Conboy showed confidence as she doubled her win-to-loss ratio in the face-off circle, winning six draws.
  • The Laker defense shut the door in the final minute defensively after Cortland pulled their goalie, with Annika Neufeld-Kreider blocking the final Red Dragon attempt to secure the win.

 The Lakers will travel to the North Country to play SUNY Canton at 4 p.m. on Friday December 6.
