OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team falls to No. 10 Williams College in the first contest of a weekend-series, despite a third period attempt at a comeback.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Williams 3, Oswego 2
Location: Marano Campus Center Arena – Oswego, N.Y.
Records: Williams 14-4-3 I Oswego 9-9-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Williams notched a goal in each period, opening the first with a tally at 18:24. The Ephs' goal was recorded as Bri Laycock caused a Laker turnover in the neutral zone before leading the rush into the offensive zone, shooting from the left faceoff circle. Abby Brustad collected Laycock's rebound, pushing it past the Oswego goalies pads.
- Brustad earned her second point of the day on an assist less than five minutes into the second stanza, as she caused a turnover near the Ephs' bench – she then led the rush into the offensive zone – before dishing it to Annie Rush for the score.
- Williams' final tally, the eventual game-winner, came off the stick of Anna Fucillo. Fucillo collected on an unlikely odd-player rush in which she skated around the defense before scoring, was fed by Hallie Whitemore who won a scrum near the penalty box.
- Avery Webster denied the Chloe Heiting her fifth shutout of the season with her third period goal. Webster's goal was tallied with five minutes remaining, as Annika Neufeld-Kreider won a scrum along the boards, passed it off to Sara Cruise, who fed her from the left post.
- Senior Victoria Rankin led the Laker rush into the offensive zone, before dropping the puck back to Katelynn Ferguson at the right faceoff circle. Ferguson ripped a shot that went over the goaltenders' left shoulder, putting Oswego within one.
- The Lakers pulled Cassie Shokar, hoping the sixth skater would be enough for a game-tying goal.
- The Surrey, B.C. native allowed just three goals, stopping 35 Ephs' shots.
- Oswego held a 29-16 advantage in faceoff wins, while going 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
