Lakers Win with Solid Offense & Stifling Defense

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team rebounded from its first loss of the season in an impressive way, holding the host St. Joseph's (L.I.) College Eagles scoreless in the second half en route to a double-digit victory on Wednesday afternoon. Kevin O'Donnell anchored the Laker defense in net while Bobby Emerson powered the offense.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Holding a 3-1 lead after the first quarter, Oswego extended its advantage with a 5-1 second to own an 8-2 margin at half.
  • In the entirety of the second half, the Lakers posted four goals – three of which came in the third – while holding the Eagles off the scoreboard.
  • O'Donnell was stellar between the pipes, stopping 11 on-goal attempts from St. Joseph's for a save percentage of .846 to nab his third triumph of the early season.
  • The defense in front of O'Donnell was just as remarkable as the goalie, causing 19 turnovers and not allowing a goal on either of St. Joseph's two man-up chances.
  • Seamus Burns paced the team with four caused turnovers while Kyle Bacon was close behind, turning St. Joseph's over three times.
  • Weston Gray, Mark McElroy, Tyler Rogan and Jeffrey Dangler all aided the defense with two caused turnovers apiece.
  • On offense, Emerson scored five times for Oswego while adding an assist for a six-point effort.
  • Just one point shy of Emerson was junior Tim Schof, who tallied two goals while helping on three other Laker scores.
  • Next in the point column was Evan Hollfelder, recording three assists, all leading to Emerson goals.
  • Bacon and Gray matched each other's offensive output, notching a goal and an assist each.
  • Closing out the Laker point getters were Jake Piccininni, Devin Moulton and Dan Doolan, scoring a goal apiece.
  • As a team, the Lakers outshot St. Joseph's 44-26 in total attempts and 29-13 in on-goal opportunities.
