NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Oswego State baseball team collected a win in the first game of a three-game series at New Paltz on Friday afternoon. Oswego improves to 6-1 in the SUNYAC on the year with another stellar performance from starting pitcher Nick DeMarco.
THE BASICS
- Result: Oswego 7, New Paltz 0
- Location: Loren Campbell Memorial Field – New Paltz, N.Y.
- Records: Oswego 10-5 (6-1 SUNYAC) | New Paltz 7-6 (0-4 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- DeMarco kept his opponent off the board for the second time in four appearances in 2019, throwing seven of the nine frames against the Hawks on Friday.
- The senior struck out four and allowed just four hits en route to a victory that pushes his season record to 3-1.
- In 26 innings, the senior has only allowed four earned runs for a miniscule 1.38 earned-run average.
- A tight game until the final inning, Oswego scored a single run in the third and sixth innings to gain control of the contest.
- The Lakers' third-inning run came as Rocco Leone doubled with two outs and was immediately driven in by a Paul Tammaro single to left.
- Three innings later, Tammaro led off with a single and stole second to move into scoring position. Following two Laker outs, Lukas Olsson made sure Oswego did not squander a lead-off single, knocking a base hit to centerfield to score Tammaro.
- The Lakers made sure of the victory in their final at-bat, notching five runs to put the game out of reach. Three walks – including an intentional nod to senior Mike Dellicarri – along with a single, double and an error produced the quintet of Oswego tallies.
- Jake Terrill earned his first save in a Laker uniform, throwing two perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts and groundouts coupled with three fly outs.
- Tammaro and Leone each had multiple hits and scored twice while Ryan Enos' double was good for two RBI. Tammaro led all hitters with three hits in the tilt.
- Olsson also had two hits, driving in one teammate, while Nick Chilson and Jonathan Luppens closed out the Laker hits with a base knock apiece.
