Lakers Unable to Erase Early Run by #15 Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team dropped a contest to nationally-ranked Cortland on the road on Saturday afternoon. No. 15 Cortland was able to notch the game's first seven goals, a deficit the Lakers could not erase despite only being outscored by one goal the rest of the way (11-10).

THE BASICS

  • Location: Stadium Red – Cortland, N.Y.
  • Records: Cortland 5-3 (3-0 SUNYAC)  |  Oswego 4-3 (1-2 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego's first goal came from Toni Laneve off a Teresa Shattuck pass at 13:04 of the first half. The Laneve goal started a 4-2 run for the Lakers over a 7:04 span.
  • Brigid Regin sandwiched a pair of Red Dragon goals with a couple of unassisted tallies before Shattuck closed the spurt with an unassisted goal of her own at the six-minute mark.
  • Cortland was able to notch one more score before the half to own a 10-4 advantage at the break.
  • Kassidy Myers recorded her ninth goal of the season on an extra-player opportunity at 24:36 to make it an 11-5 margin.
  • Regin and Laneve then connected for Oswego's next goal at 22:09, as the former scored off a pass from the latter.
  • The Red Dragons responded with a string of four-straight goals to put the game out of reach.
  • Oswego fought to the final horn, however, answering with four of the contest's final five goals, each coming in unassisted fashion.
  • Mckenna Chesbro scored her fourth of the year at 11:52 prior to a pair of Molly Beck goals at 5:32 and 3:37.
  • Laneve closed the game with her 17th goal of the year after a Cortland yellow card, with the tally coming inside the final minute.
