Oswego Falls in Triple Overtime

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team dropped its first conference contest of the season in a hard-fought triple overtime game with Plattsburgh. The high-intensity contest saw a scoreless second quarter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The rivals made the board first, but were unable to maintain the goal advantage, as the Lakers answered less than two minutes later on a tally by Dan Doolan. Doolan was assisted by Evan Hollfelder.
  • Opening up a lead, Oswego went up 2-1 at 9:55 as Eric Kiel was able to capitalize on the man-up opportunity, helped along by Bobby Emerson.
  • The Cardinals and Lakers would each record another goal before the first quarter came to an end, with the Oswego tally coming off the stick of  Hollfelder at 4:33.
  • After a scoreless second quarter, the third saw three goals, one by the host and two by the visitor. Oswego's goal began the quarter's scoring at 10:58, as Doolan collected his second score of the game, this time unassisted.
  • The Lakers opened the fourth quarter with two goals, coming by way of Doolan to complete his hat trick and the other from Emerson. Hollfelder recorded his third point of the day on Emerson's goal that put the squad up 6-4 with 9:03 remaining in regulation.
  • Plattsburgh posted two goals in the final four minutes of regulation, pushing the game into overtime tied at 6-6.
  • In dramatic fashion, the Cardinals scored with five seconds remaining in the first overtime, before the tally was called back. The goal was waived as the scorer shot from inside the crease.
  • The contest saw another scoreless overtime section, before ultimately coming to an end with 3:23 remaining in the third extra period, as the Cardinals were able to beat the Laker defense.
  • Goalie Kevin O'Donnell was strong in the goal, stopping 20 shots during his 65:37 in the net, three of which came in overtime.
  • Oswego was strong on the clear attempt, going 19-for-20. It also was 13-for-19 on the faceoff, with Kyle O'Connor winning all 13 for the squad.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers return to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday as they host the Geneseo Knights for a conference matchup.
