Baseball Drops Game to No. 30 Ithaca at Home

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State baseball team dropped a nonconference matchup with nationally-ranked Ithaca College at home on Tuesday afternoon. A pair of runs from the No. 30 Bombers in the top of the seventh was the difference.

THE BASICS
  • Result: No. 30 Ithaca 3, Oswego 1
  • Location: Laker Baseball Field – Oswego, N.Y.
  • Records: No. 30 Ithaca 23-7  |  Oswego 22 -12
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The lone Laker run came in the bottom of the seventh with the home team trying to erase a 3-0 deficit. With two outs, Brandon Nicholson recorded an infield single and advanced to third on a single to right from Nick Chilson. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, plating Nicholson.
  • Oswego had its best opportunity in the fifth frame, trailing Ithaca just 1-0. After the Bombers induced two outs, Chilson singled to short and Ryan Weiss had a base knock through the right side to put his teammate in scoring position. The next Laker batter battled deep into the count but struck out swinging to end the Laker threat.
  • Kieran Finnegan earned the start for the Lakers, scattering eight hits over seven innings of work. The freshman allowed three runs – only two of which were earned – while striking out three hitters. Finnegan is now 2-2 on the year.
  • In relief, Matt Zakala and Mike Di Salvo split the final two innings evenly, with Zakala working around two walks while Di Salvo faced the minimum with a fly out and two ground outs.
  • Oswego's pitching and defense minimized Ithaca's scoring opportunities, forcing the Bombers to leave eight runners on base.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will stay in nonconference action as it travels to the University of Rochester for a 5 p.m. tilt on Wednesday with the Yellowjackets.
