Five Second Half Goals Sends Lakers Past 'Stangs

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team began SUNYAC play with a dominant performance, scoring five second-half goals to beat Morrisville on the road on Wednesday afternoon. Annie O'Neill and Emily Hunter each finished with two goals to push Oswego past the Mustangs.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Oswego 6, Morrisville 1
  • Location: Drake Field – Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Oswego 3-4 (1-0 SUNYAC)  |  Morrisville 0-8 (0-1 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • O'Neill tallied the first half's only goal, coming in the second quarter. The freshman was able to tip-in a rebound off a Mustang save at 22:20 to give the Lakers a 1-0 advantage at the half.
  • Slightly more than seven minutes into the third quarter, Kacie Simzer notched the game-winning goal, putting away a score after a scrum in front of the cage.
  • At 42:52, O'Neill and Kaitlyn Ahle ran a fast break clear of any defenders, as the former fed the latter for her first-collegiate point.
  • Less than five minutes later, the Lakers made it a 4-0 margin as Hunter recorded her first of the day and the season.
  • O'Neill wound up back in the goal column just 40 seconds later as Jenna Rogers careened a drive from the top left of the arc for her teammate to deflect into the cage by the right post. It was O'Neill's team-leading sixth goal of the year and the sophomore's third assist, the second-most for Oswego on the season.
  • After Morrisville earned its only point of the day, Hunter added her second-career goal in the final minute of action, cleaning up a rebound for an unassisted score at 59:10.
  • The Lakers dominated the stat sheet with advantages in shots (34-8), shots on-goal (28-4) and penalty corners (11-7).
  • Freshman Erica Scheblein earned the victory in cage for Oswego, stopping three Mustang shots over 60 minutes.
