Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Early Seconds Goal Does Not Hold for Lakers

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team began the Skidmore College Alumni Invite with a one-goal loss to Stockton University on Saturday afternoon. Oswego scored in the opening seconds of the game but two goals by the Ospreys later in the first half upset the Lakers' bid for victory.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Stockton 2, Oswego 1
  • Location: Wachenheim Field – Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
  • Records: Stockton 3-1  |  Oswego 1-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jack Van Pelt dished a pass to Caleb Asamoah and the senior ripped a shot from 35-yards out to beat the keeper high over his left shoulder.
  • The Asamoah goal came just 15 seconds into the contest but it would not hold for long as Stockton was able to even the game at 4:25 on a penalty kick.
  • Oswego and Stockton remained knotted at 1-1 for the next 28 minutes until an unassisted Osprey goal proved to be the game-winner.
  • The Lakers had three on-goal attempts to Stockton's single opportunity in the second half but none were able to find the back of the net.
  • Oswego outshot Stockton by one (10-9) but the teams were even in on-target chances (5-5).
  • The Lakers held an advantage in corner kicks, doubling the Ospreys output (4-2).
  • Asamoah, Van Pelt, Kieran Gilroy, Steven Rojas and Ryan Contreras each had a shot on-goal to account for the Lakers' five.
  • In 90-minutes between the pipes for Brian Terra, the junior made three saves.

Oswego will close out the Skidmore Alumni Invite with an 11 a.m. matchup with St. John Fisher College on Sunday.
