Offensive Explosion Sends Lakers Past Fisher

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team moved back to .500 on the year with an offensive explosion over St. John Fisher College in the consolation game of the Skidmore College Alumni Invite. Oswego tallied five goals in the first half to run away with the victory.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Oswego 7, Fisher 1
  • Location: Wachenheim Field – Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
  • Records: Oswego 2-2  |  Fisher 0-4
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Steven Rojas distributed assists on back-to-back goals in a 43-second span during the 15th minute of play.
  • The freshman found senior Caleb Asamoah who beat his defender one-on-one down the left side before putting a low shot past the keeper.
  • Oswego's game winner came from Kieran Gilroy at 14:49, as Rojas fed his classmate on the right side before Rojas sent a shot across the box, beating the goalie to his left.
  • Eight minutes later, Asamoah and Rojas were at it again, as the former recorded his second goal of the contest at 22:28.
  • In the 35th minute, Ryan Young capitalized on a penalty kick for his first goal of the 2019 campaign.
  • Also scoring his first goal of the year – and first of his collegiate career – was Kyle Scalzo at 42:42 of the first half. Scalzo was aided by a Slater Bushen saved shot attempt, as the freshman collected the rebound and scored on an open net.
  • Bushen would go on to score the final goal for Oswego, as Santiago Soto sent a low cross into the box for the sophomore to cash in at 69:38.
  • The Lakers' sixth goal came at 58:01 as senior classmates Jacob Munski and Anthony Paris combined for a goal. In another rebound situation, a saved Munski shot was Paris' pay dirt, as he settled a rebound and notched his first goal of the year.
  • In net, Matt Borrow earned the start for Oswego, playing 69:38 with three saves and one goal allowed. It was the sophomore's first-career start, first-collegiate appearance and first win of his career.
  • Thomas Pupatelli entered the game for the final 20:22, stopping one shot without surrendering a goal to the Cardinals.
  • Oswego outshot Fisher by more than double (23-11), including a 14-5 advantage in on-target chances.

The Lakers will return to the pitch at 6 p.m. on Wednesday when they travel to SUNY Poly for a nonconference matchup.
