Offense Keeps Rolling as Oswego Shuts Out Poly

UTICA, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team moved above .500 with its third nonconference road win of the season at SUNY Poly on Wednesday night. Oswego shutout the Wildcats on their home turf while getting big performances from Caleb Asamoah and Steven Rojas.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Oswego 5, SUNY Poly 0
  • Location: Wildcat Field – Utica, N.Y.
  • Records: Oswego 3-2-0  |  SUNY Poly 2-2-0
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Asamoah has made it a habit of scoring within the first minute of the game, with Wednesday being no exception.
  • After scoring in the first 15 seconds against Stockton University over the weekend, the senior put the Lakers up for good 40 seconds into the contest at SUNY Poly.
  • Steven Rojas added a goal of his own – the first goal of his collegiate career – at 19:49 to put Oswego ahead 2-0. Jack Van Pelt was credited with an assist on the Rojas goal, his second of the season.
  • The Lakers held the two-goal margin through the halftime before the pair of goal scorers connected for the third Oswego tally.
  • Rojas added an assist for his team-leading fourth of the year, finding Asamoah at 52:45 for a 3-0 Laker lead.
  • In the final 10 minutes of play, Oswego would add a pair of goals from Logan Sperano and Slater Bushen.
  • Sperano's tally was the senior's first point of the season and fifth goal of his career, making it 4-0 Oswego at 84:18.
  • With 28 seconds remaining, Bushen made sure to keep nipping at Asamoah's team-leading four goals on the year, recording his third of 2019 off a pass from Brendan Murphy. The assist was Murphy's first-collegiate point.
  • Between the pipes, junior Brian Terra was not challenged often but earned a shutout by saving both shots he faced over 90 minutes.
  • Oswego out-shot SUNY Poly 22-9 overall and 10-2 in on-target attempts. The visitor's also held a 9-0 advantage in corner-kick opportunities.
