Plattsburgh Overcomes Solid Senior Day Effort

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team led for most of the contest before a late Plattsburgh run allowed the Cardinals to slip away with a 56-55 victory on Senior Day for the Lakers.  Senior Sydni Eure led the Oswego offense with 20 points while fellow senior Morgan Wolanin set a new career-high with eight blocks in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After letting up three points early in the first quarter, the Lakers went on a 15-0 run, led by six from Eure and four from senior Erin Gantley, to take charge at the end the first quarter, 15-7.
  • After a pair of three's early in the second quarter from senior Quincy Zimmerman, the Lakers took their biggest lead of 13 points and a score of 23-10 with 6:44 to go in the half.
  • Eure's five straight points at the end of the second quarter helped the Lakers hold on to a 28-18 lead heading into the break.
  • The Lakers held the Cardinals under 20 points behind Wolanin's four blocks, forcing the Cardinals to shoot just 8-34 after two quarters.
  • Oswego remained in control as Eure hit a buzzer-beater to end the third quarter to put the Lakers up 46-38.
  • With 2:53 remaining in the contest, Plattsburgh closed to two at 52-50 on a 3-pointer.
  • Three free throws, two from Wolanin and one from junior Taylor Torchia, had Oswego up with 1:49 remaining.
  • The Cardinals got an inside bucket and then tied the game up with a three pointer with 40 seconds left.
  • After a defensive stop, Plattsburgh was fouled and hit the deciding point to seal the victory.
  • It was a balanced scoring night for Oswego as Gantley finished with 10 points, Torchia nine and Zimmerman and Wolanin both with eight.
  • Senior Tatyana Fish had a pair of rebounds and an assist in the contest off the bench for Oswego.

The Lakers will host the Potsdam Bears tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Max Ziel Gymnasium.
