Eure Scores 30 in Loss to Bears

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego State women's basketball senior Sydni Eure and Potsdam sophomore Devyn Elliott went toe-to-toe offensively as the Bears pulled away in an 87-75 road victory over the Lakers.  Eure scored 30 points while Elliott hit for 34 for Potsdam.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams came out firing with Potsdam shooting 60% from the floor while Oswego was hitting at 54.5% in the early going of a 14-14 game.
  • The Lakers focused their attack inside with Eure scoring 10 points in the first eight minutes as Oswego pushed out to a 19-14 lead.
  • Potsdam's top scorer, Elliott, hit a jumper and a three to tie it up at 19 before an Erin Gantley layup ended the first with the Lakers on top, 21-19.
  • Halfway through the second, the teams stayed close with the score tied at 32-32 and Elliott with 18 points and Eure with 16.
  • The Bears started working the ball inside, leading to 10 points on free throws in the second quarter alone.
  • A 3-pointer just before the half gave the visitors a 46-41 lead heading into the break.
  • Potsdam got the fortune of some long rebounds and second-chance points in the third quarter as they extended their lead to 67-58 heading into the final frame.
  • Senior Quincey Zimmerman hit a three to close the lead back to 74-68 with 4:45 remaining.
  • The Lakers got some good looks down the stretch, but 2-for-9 shooting from distance in the fourth quarter limited the comeback as Potsdam pulled away.
  • Zimmerman (17) and fellow senior Morgan Wolanin (10) also reach double figures in points for Oswego.
  • Junior Taylor Torchia and Gantley both finished with seven points.
