OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's basketball team used a smothering defense to hold visiting Geneseo to just 31.9% shooting, including 2-11 from distance, in a 64-42 victory over the Knights. The Lakers secured a home playoff game in the upcoming SUNYAC Championships with the win and a loss by Cortland.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Oswego started strong by holding Geneseo to just five points in the first nine minutes of action of a 12-5 beginning to the game.
- The Knights used a 9-2 run to tie it up with 6:39 left in the half.
- Senior Brandan Gartland and sophomore Colby Moultrie each hit a pair of threes in a 12-2 spurt that helped Oswego to a 27-20 lead at the half.
- The Lakers shot well in the second half (56.5%) while holding Geneseo to 35%.
- Oswego's lead slowly grew as the second half progressed behind 15 points from freshman Jeremiah Sparks.
- Gartland (13) and Moultrie (12) joined Sparks in double figures.
- Sparks was the team leader in rebounding with seven as the teams tied at 31-31 on the boards.
- Sophomore Jordan Brown and freshman Jamal Achille each chipped in six points for the Lakers.
- Bench scoring tilted strongly in Oswego's advantage (25-10) as did points in the paint (28-14).
- The Lakers can rise as high as the third seed in the SUNYAC standings, but would need a win tomorrow and an Oneonta loss to Plattsburgh.
