Field Hockey Breaks Season Goal Total In Shutout

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Field Hockey team defeated the Golden Flyers of Nazareth by a score of 6-0. Five different players for the Lakers found themselves on the score sheet. Oswego, just 14 games into the season has broken their program's single-season goal record, previously set at 46 goals in 1982. They also shattered their total points in a season record (137), previously set at 127, also in 1982.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first ten minutes of the contest, the Lakers held the Golden Flyers in their defensive zone, this came with quite a few scoring chances.
  • Kacie Simzer tipped her fourth goal of the season in off a rocket of a shot from Senior Abby Testo.
  • This goal came with just over four minutes to go in the first quarter. Kaitlyn Mastracco also assisted the Laker goal.
  • Simzer added her second of the game, just under four minutes into the second quarter. Alyssa DeMichael tallied the assist.
  • 41 seconds later, Leah Romanowski added a goal for the Lakers, shortly after taking the penalty corner for her team.
  • The second quarter remained in the Lakers offensive zone for the majority of play.
  • At half, the score remained 3-0.
  • Leah Romanowski added her second goal of the game to give the Lakers the four-goal lead with 11:13 remaining in the third quarter.
  • Mastracco found herself on the score sheet for a second time as she scored the Lakers fifth goal, unassisted.
  • Kaitlyn Ahle scored her third goal of the season late in the fourth quarter, giving the Lakers the 6-0 victory. The goal was assisted by Julia Heacock, her third point of the year.
  • As the Lakers defense stood tall, Erica Scheblein faced only two shots on goal throughout, saving both. 
  • This totals to her seventh shutout on the season. 
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will return to conference play as they travel to Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles at 7:15 PM on Friday October 15.
