OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team kicked off action at the Skidmore Invitational with a pair of wins over Sage and Union (NY).  The Lakers swept the Gators before pulling away from the Dutchwomen, 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sage (25-22, 25-21, 25-16)

• Against Sage, junior Sydney Chiffriller notched 10 kills as did sophomore Georgia Farry.
• Farry hit .588 in the match, getting her 10 kills on just 17 swings with no errors.
• Junior McKenna Corbin had 24 assists and senior Dana Carey had 11.
• Freshman Cara Simplicio had four aces to disrupt the Sage offense while senior Skylar Bechard had 10 digs.
• Right sides Emma Fiorentine and Olivia Bunn had five and four kills, respectively.

Union (25-19, 12-25, 25-21, 27-25)

• The Lakers came out swinging with 13 kills in the opening set before Union's defense held the team to five in the second.
• Oswego rebounded with 15 team kills in the third set and was up 24-18 in the fourth when the Dutchwomen made a run to tie the game at 24-24.
• A kill from Simplicio and one from Union pushed it to 25-25 before a service error gave Oswego their eighth match point.
• Fiorentine finished the deal with a nice little roll shot right over the block to give the Lakers the victory.
• Simplicio led Oswego with 11 kills with Farry and Fiorentine right behind with 10 each.
• Sophomore Kaylee Troy had 13 digs and five aces and freshman Madison Gordon had 10 digs of her own.
• Senior Madelyn Smith posted nine digs and three kills while freshman Emily Zeisler had seven kills.
• Corbin had 23 assists and nine digs with Carey getting 16 assists.
• Middle hitter Grace Taylor chipped in all over the stat sheet with four kills, two aces, two blocks and five digs.

Oswego returns to action on Saturday with matches at 11 a.m. against Skidmore on their home court and then at 1 p.m. versus Bard.
