OSWEGO, N.Y. – Behind 16 hits, the Oswego State baseball team dominated the Husson Eagles by a score of 17-6 in the opening round of the NCAA Hartford (Conn.) Regional Championship. HOW IT HAPPENED
- Husson struck first with a two-RBI double with two outs in the top of the first inning.
- The Lakers answered right away in their half of the first by loading the bases with walks to Tammaro and Enos sandwiched around a Brendon Frank single to left.
- Third baseman Kyle Lauria was hit by a pitch to bring in Tammaro and Ryan Weiss walked to bring in Frank.
- Freshman Jacob Levine's RBI single chased the Husson starting pitcher as the score was 3-2 with no outs.
- Senior Hunter Holliday followed with his own RBI single to make it 4-2 and senior Myles Felton hit a sacrifice fly to score Weiss and make it 5-2 after one inning.
- The Eagles doubled and singled to start the second inning against graduate student Jake Terrill.
- After a sacrifice, groundout and a walk, Husson got a two-RBI single up the middle to cut it back to a 5-4 deficit.
- In the Oswego half, Tammaro singled over second base to leadoff and advanced to second on a balk.
- Frank lined his second hit of game to left to plate Tammaro and make it 6-4 and also reached second on a balk.
- Enos reached when he was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second for Lauria who looped a fly ball into the sun in right that dropped for a hit.
- Weiss followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Frank to make it 7-4 for the first out of the inning.
- Levine hit a similar fly ball to right as Lauria, causing the error for the right fielder followed by Holliday hitting the exact same ball and ending up on second after the error that scored a pair.
- Felton sacrificed to score Levine, making it 10-4 and putting Holliday on third before a groundout ended the inning.
- In the bottom of the third inning, facing the third Husson pitcher, Tammaro doubled to the left-center gap to leadoff.
- Frank singled over the shortstop to drive home Tammaro and took second on a stolen base.
- On the very next pitch, Frank swiped third standing up and came home when the throw to third got away into left field for a 12-4 lead.
- Enos singled to shortstop to reach first and advanced to second on a Lauria sacrifice.
- Weiss took advantage of the second baseman guarding against Enos' speed and singled through the right side for the RBI and 13-4 lead.
- A fielder's choice, hit-by-pitch for Holliday, and a strikeout ended the Oswego threat.
- By the end of the third, the first five batters for Oswego were 8-for-8 with 11 runs scored and six RBI.
- Oswego added a pair of runs in the sixth when pinch-hitter Frank Levanti came home on a wild pitch and Frank hit a sacrifice to score Tammaro.
- The Lakers added two more in the bottom of the seventh when Levanti singled home Connor Stanton and Jared Kwicinski who had reached on a hit-by-pitch and double.
- Terrill (4-0) settled in to earn the win, retiring 15-of-17 batters from the third to the seventh innings, with one of those reaching by way of error.
- Freshman Jacob Sanders pitched the final two innings, allowing a single hit, and a pair of unearned runs.
- Coming into the game second nationally with 3.66 steals per game, Oswego upped that average with four in the contest.
WHAT'S NEXT
Oswego will play the winner of the Wheaton (Mass.) and Salve Regina game, played later this evening, on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Hartford.
