OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oswego State Women's soccer team fell to the Cardinals of Plattsburgh in their first game of SUNYAC play. Graisa Madden scored the Lakers lone goal on a penalty kick at the 87:11 mark. Haley Muehl finished the contest with a season and career-high seven saves.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first half was dominated by the Plattsburgh offense. The Cardinals out shot the Lakers by a margin of 14-5.Â

Haley Muehl fought off four shots on goal for the Lakers in the first half, keeping her team in the game.Â

Plattsburgh took a 1-0 lead at the 29:13 mark of the first half, the goal was scored off of the goal line to the right of Muehl.Â

Just after the Plattsburgh goal, Sophomore Luigina Serrao ripped a shot just wide of the Cardinal goalkeeper.Â

With 16:50 remaining in the first half, Muehl made a spectacular save diving to her left to keep the deficit at one.Â

In the last twenty minutes of the half, the defense of Oswego shined, keeping the Cardinals off of the board to keep the game at 1-0 going into the second half.Â

At the start of the second half, the Cardinals and Lakers were back-and-forth offensively.Â

At the 52:39 mark of the contest Plattsburgh extended their lead to two goals.Â

The goal was crossed straight to a Cardinal on the goal line, who tapped it in for the score.Â

For 35 minutes of the second half, the game went scoreless, not without opportunities.Â

With two minutes and nine seconds left, Madden was presented with a penalty kick, without question she netted it for Oswego's first goal of the game.Â

Oswego showed urgency after their first goal putting on the offensive pressure, but proved to be too late as the Cardinals held them to just one score.Â
