Teggart Nets Game Winner in 2-1 Win Over Cortland

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Senior Captain Philomena Teggart scored the go-ahead goal with 2:30 left in the contest as the Oswego State women's ice hockey team rallied to defeat Cortland by a 2-1 score.  The goal was Teggart's first of the season to go along with her seven assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego had the clear advantage in the first period with an 11-3 edge in shots-on-goal despite the period staying scoreless.
  • Cortland broke through 4:47 into the second period with a goal from Meggan Cramer and assisted by Emily Kromer.
  • Just under three minutes later, Cortland attempted to pinch down and keep the puck in their offensive zone, but a nice flip of the puck by Sophia Kyrkostas opened up a three-on-one break for the Lakers.
  • Kyleigh Grugin gathered the puck and raced down the left side and fired a centering pass to the net that Morgan Shines was able to tip past Cortland's goalie to even the score.
  • In the later half of the second period, both teams took multiple penalties, including a pair of two-woman advantages for Cortland that the Lakers were able to kill off.
  • The Red Dragons outshot Oswego 11-6 in the second period.
  • On the game winner, Teggart tapped a pass out of the Laker defensive zone to Ariella Haas as both skaters carried their speed into a two-on-one.
  • Haas drew the defense and flipped a pass back to Teggart who chipped an amazing shot into the high glove-side corner for the 2-1 lead.
  • The Lakers were able to smother Cortland and conference scoring leader Grace Schnorr to close out the contest.
  • Joanna Hiebert had 19 saves in the game and Oswego ended with a 32-20 advantage in shots-on-goal.
