Guerre Leads Women's Track & Field at Utica

UTICA, N.Y.
– Senior Kayla Guerre finished fourth in the women's long jump to lead the Oswego State women's track & field team at the Utica Winter Opener.  The Lakers finished thirteenth while the men were fifteenth.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Oswego Women's Track & Field 17 points (13 of 16); Oswego Men's Track & Field 2.5 points (15 of 16)
  • Location:  Hutton Sports and Recreation Center, Utica, N.Y.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Guerre flew 4.83 meters (15' 10.25") on her final jump to score five points, finishing behind a pair of Division II athletes from St. Rose and a jumper from Hamilton.
  • Junior Ashleigh Lacy added points in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes with sixth place finishes.
  • The Fort Edward native was just off her personal best with a time of 8.30 seconds in the 60-meter dash and ran the 200-meters in 27.96 seconds.
  • Freshman Faith Coyle also chipped in with a sixth-place finish in the women's 400-meters in a time of 1:05.20.
  • Coyle was just outside the scoring in the 800-meter run, finishing in ninth in 2:35.85 with teammate Gretchen Dowd in twenty-third at 2:49.15.
  • Senior Lindsay Fluman grabbed three team points with a sixth in the shot put (10.34 meters, 33' 11.25") with teammate Abigail Conpropst taking twenty-first (7.86 meters).
  • Freshman Ellen Decker was ninth in the women's 3000-meters in 13:21.45.
  • On the men's side, sophomore Aidan Harrington finished in the top-8 of the 400-meter dash in 53.02 seconds and made the final of the men's 60-meter hurdles in 9.56 seconds.
  • Junior Chris Dorney scored team points in his first collegiate action in the pole vault with an eighth-place finish.
  • Senior Michael Saavedra finished in the top half of the shot put with a toss of 11.18 meters (36' 8.25") with teammate Alexander Kline taking twenty-sixth (9.96 meters).
  • In the men's 3,000-meter run, senior Nathan Couse was sixteenth in 9:21.02 while sophomore Matthew Pietzak was in the top half of runners of the men's mile (4:42.90).
  • Sophomore Jack Hickey just missed the scoring in the 400-meter dash, finishing in ninth with a new personal best of 53.22 seconds.
WHAT'S NEXT
Both teams will head over to Brockport next Saturday for the Brockport Invitational and a 10 a.m. start time.
