ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Junior
Charlie Grygas won his matchup but the Oswego State wrestling team was defeated by a 44-6 score on the road at RIT on Sunday. Grygas extended his individual record to 21-1 on the season with his only loss coming to the nationally sixth-ranked wrestler, Michael Ross (Johnson & Wales) in the finals of the opening tournament back in early November.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grygas came into the dual match ranked seventh nationally and earned a fall at 3:48 against Ben Dougherty of the Tigers.
- Senior Isaac Mathews wrestled well at 165 in a pairing against Austin Lamb who appears in the national rankings, falling 8-2 by decision.
- At 174, sophomore Bryce Smith also had a good showing in a 2-0 setback by decision to Zack Stedeford.
- In a pairing of previous Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Rookies of the Week, freshman Josh Harkless of RIT bettered standout newcomer Anthony Cascen, 8-0.
- Senior CJ Walz drew another Tiger appearing in the national rankings with Chris Horton earning a 14-5 major decision victory.
- Matt Laubach, Nicolai Celestain, Thomas Coll, and Jaden Hall were all defeated in falls, with Coll's coming against the top-ranked wrestler in the nation in the 157-pound weight class, Kaidon Winters.
WHAT'S NEXT
The wrestling team is back in action next Saturday when they head to Wilkes-Barre (PA) for a tri-match with King's College and Lackawanna.
