Volleyball Continues Dominance, Moves Win Streak to TEN!

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Volleyball team earned their fourth SUNYAC win of the season with a 3-0 win over Fredonia this afternoon. The Devils came into today's contest looking to end their five game losing streak. The Lakers had other intentions, extending their win streak of their own to ten straight.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego 3, Fredonia 0

Location: Max Ziel Gymnasium, Laker Hall, Oswego, N.Y. 

Records: Oswego State (14-6 .SUNYAC 4-1), Fredonia (1-14 , SUNYAC 0-3) 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Lakers started the first match with a kill by Georgia Farry.

  • The home team was able to go on a run against the Blue Devils, bringing the score to 6-3.

  • From there, the Lakers would continue to put the pedal down on the Devils.

  • The Lakers would go on a 8-5 run to win the first set 25-15 with 7 kills from Cara Simplicio

  • The Lakers would keep the momentum rolling into the second set, establishing a 4-1 lead behind two kills from Emma Florentine.

  • The Devils would go on a 3-1 run to bring the score 4-6, still in favor of Oswego.

  • The Lakers would go on a 5-0 run from there, making the score 11-4.

  • Oswego  would continue to dominate the second set, winning by a score of 25-21. 

  • Emma Fiorentine finished the second set with 6 kills for the Lakers. 

  • The Devils continued to keep the pressure on the Lakers into the third set. 

  • The Green and Gold  started out the third set strong, establishing a 5-1 lead on the Devils. 

  • The Devils would hang tough and battle back and forth with the Lakers, eventually bringing the deficit to 2 at 13-11.

  • The Lakers would come out and show why they were riding a nine game win streak entering the contest, eventually finishing the set with a score of 25-20

  • Sydney Chiffriller and Emma Florentine would both finish the third set with four kills a piece. 

  • Cara Simplicio would finish leading the team with kills, finishing with 13, with Emma Fiorentine finishing right behind her with 12.

  • McKenna Corbin showed another strong performance for the Lakers, leading the team with 25 assists, and tying for the lead for aces (3) and blocks (2).

  • Ally Natale led the team with digs, finishing with 19 on the day. 
  • Oswego has only surrendered three sets to opponents in their previous seven total matchups combined.

WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego will return home to Max Ziel Gymnasium on Wednesday, October 5th at 7:00 PM for a matchup against Wells College.
