BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Men's soccer team defeated the Buffalo State Bengals on the road this evening. The match got scrappy towards the end, with several red and yellow cards being assessed in the final 24 minutes of play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lakers came out swinging in the first half, scoring the first goal of the day just over a minute into play.

Kieran Gilroy scored at the 1:22 mark, unassisted.

Shortly after, Oswego would score again. This time, it would be Liam Rothar scoring, assisted by Chris Smith.

Just over 11 minutes into play, the Bengals would score their first and only goal of the evening.

Oswego would finish the first half with five shots attempted, while Buffalo State would have eight shots attempted.

Matt D'Arpino had two saves for the Lakers in the first half.

The Bengals opened the second half by attempting five shots in the first five minutes on the Lakers.

The Lakers defense was strong, blocking two of those shots.

Oswego would have many chances to add to their lead, but they would miss shots just shy of the goal.

Just under 24 minutes of play, both the Lakers and Bengals had players assessed a red card.

Shortly after, tensions were still rising, as both teams had players assessed yellow cards.

Just over two minutes left of play, Kyle Hanner had a one on one chance to add to the Lakers lead, but missed just to the right of the net.

The Lakers were able to get the gutsy win against the Bengals in a heavily tensioned conference matchup.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers head to Oneonta this Saturday for a matchup against the Red Dragons of Oneonta, who are 5-1-1 at home. The Lakers are hoping to hand them their second loss at home.
