Two Second Half Goals Lift Cardinals Over Lakers

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Men's soccer team fell to the Plattsburgh Cardinals at home this afternoon. Oswego had the 1-0 lead going into the second half, but the team surrendered two second half goals to fall 2-1.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 1 (4-6-2, 1-3-2 SUNYAC), Plattsburgh 2 (6-4-2, 2-2-2 SUNYAC) 

Location: Laker Turf Stadium, Oswego, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Cardinals would control the first ten minutes of the first half, keeping the ball on Oswego's defensive end for the majority of the time.

  • Jason Wuytack would open up the offense for the Lakers in the first half, getting a shot on goal just over 14 minutes into the game. 

  • Ryan Young would score the only goal of the first half, with a header, assisted by Liam Rother after a beautiful cross. 

  • Both teams would finish the rest of the half playing spectacular defense, with only three total shots on goal from both teams combined.

  • Andre Bourjolly would finish the half with one save.

  • Plattsburgh would come out in the second half on a mission, controlling the tempo majority of the half. 

  • Plattsburgh would score their first goal just under halfway through the second half (66:17). Bourjolly would have the ball slip right between his legs, surrendering the first goal of the evening.

  • Plattsburgh would score the game winning goal 78:51 into the contest. 

  • Emotions would rise and impact the game as there were several yellow cards assessed to each team. Eight total in the contest. 

  • The Lakers couldn't rally back against the Cardinals, and would end up falling  by a score of 2-1.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will travel to Buffalo State on Wednesday October 12th for a matchup against the Bengals. The Bengals are coming of off back-to-back ties and are looking to get their second conference win of the season.
