Russo Records Double-Double In Victory Over Wells

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Basketball team hosted Wells College Express at Max Ziel Gymnasium this evening. Oswego topped their season high in points this evening, beating their previous high of 86. Oswego is off to their best start under Coach Pinkerton, reaching 4-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lakers took the lead early on into the contest, and continued to pile on the points. The Express had no answers for the Lakers defense, shooting 11.1% in the first quarter.

  • Oswego was efficient on offense, converting on 60% of their field goal attempts, going 12 for 20. 

  • The Lakers dominated the glass, getting 18 rebounds in the first quarter.

  • Oswego would lead 25-4 going into the second quarter.

  • As time went on in the second quarter, the Lakers cooled down offensively; shooting only 34.8% from the field.

  • The Lakers defense continued to cause problems for the Express, giving up only 2 baskets in the second quarter.

  • The Lakers held the Express in check, surrendering only four baskets in the half on 31 attempts. 

  • Leading for the Lakers at the half in points was Jena Russo and Sydney Hoefs, tying with seven points each. Russo also led the Lakers in rebounds, with seven as well. 

  • Oswego was able to spread the ball around efficiently, having 10 different players scoring points in the first half. The Lakers led 45-8 going into the half.

  • The Express were able to find some success in the third quarter, doubling their total from the first half. The Express were able to hit a few 3pt shots to help give their offense some life.

  • Oswego still was able to maintain their lead, yet their offensive struggles still continued. The Lakers shot 39.1% in the quarter, going 1-6 beyond the arc. 

  • The Lakers were able to drive it home in the fourth quarter after finding their success from the first quarter. The Lakers were able to convert on 50% of their field goal attempts in the fourth. 

  • Jena Russo would finish with a double-double, recording 14 points and 10 rebounds. Russo led the team in points. Giavanna White-Principio would tie with Russo for the lead on the night with rebounds.
  • Caitie Lilly finished the contest with 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and three blocks. 
  • The Lakers had twelve different point scorers throughout the contest. 
  • Oswego would finish the game with a 68 point win over the Express, taking a 88-20 victory.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will travel to Delhi on Saturday November 19th to take on the Broncos. The Broncos are currently 1-1 on the season.
