Women's Basketball Keeps The Ball Rolling, Wins Fifth Straight

DELHI, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Basketball team traveled to SUNY Delhi this afternoon to take on the Broncos. After a slow first half start, the Lakers were able to rally in the second half and win their fifth consecutive game to start the season. Women's Basketball with this win has the most victories in a row since the 2012-13 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oswego shot 1-10 on their 3-pt attempts in the first quarter. 

  • Fortunately for the Lakers, their defense was able to hold the Broncos to just 5 converted attempts. The Broncos had 19 attempts in the quarter. 

  • The Lakers would convert five of their 17 second quarter attempts, hitting a pair of 3pt shots to give them the edge over the Broncos. 

  • The Broncos converted on six of their 13 second quarter attempts. The Broncos were able to get to the free throw line three separate times in the half, converting on 66.7% of their attempts. 

  • The Lakers would lead 25-24 going into the half.

  • Oswego would come out of the half on a mission, finding their rhythm on offense.

  • The Lakers would come out and convert on eight of their 13 field goal attempts. Hitting seven 3-pt shots to build a 28 point lead on the Broncos. 

  • The girls were able to get to the free throw line for the first time, shooting 75% from the charity stripe; converting on six of their eight attempts in the quarter.

  • The Lakers would lead 60-36 going into the fourth quarter of play.

  • Oswego would keep the foot on the pedal in the fourth quarter, not allowing the Broncos to get back into the game.

  • The Lakers would have 19 free throw attempts in the second half, converting on 14 of them. 

  • Oswego was able to control the boards, securing 59 rebounds, while the Broncos only had 37. 

  • Diamond Pickett led the Lakers with points, securing another double-double. Pickett also secured 10 rebounds, and went 7-8 from the free throw line. 

  • Karleigh Leo was able to hit five second half 3-pt attempts for the Lakers, giving her 15 points on the day.
