#12 Lakers Open Conference Play With Win Over Fredonia

OSWEGO, NY.  –  The Oswego State Men's Basketball team returned home for their first SUNYAC matchup of the season this evening. The Lakers opened up their conference play against the Fredonia Blue Devils. The Lakers were able to pick up their first conference win of the season this evening.

THE BASICS

Final Score: #12 Oswego State 79 (4-1 , SUNYAC 1-0), Fredonia 60 (0-7 , SUNYAC 0-1)

Location: Max Ziel Gymnasium, Oswego, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lakers got off to a fast start offensively, hitting three of their first five three point field goal attempts, giving them a 9-2 lead.

  • After the first ten minutes of play, the Lakers shot 70% on their three point field goal attempts (7/10), forced 6 turnovers, and held Fredonia to just 3/17 from the field.

  • Fredonia had no answer for the Lakers as they continued to put points up on the scoreboard, scoring at their own will.

  • Oswego would lead by 27 before the Blue Devils started making baskets to cut their lead down to 21.

  • Oswego would have a 46-25 lead going into the half, resulting from a combination of great defense and even better offense. The Lakers shot 50% from behind the arc in the half (7/14), and 47.4% from the field (18/38). Oswego was able to win on the glass in the half, out rebounding the Blue Devils with a 22-16 margin.

  • The Lakers scored 20 points in the paint and had 10 second chance points in the half as well.

  • Cartier Bowman had ten points and six rebounds for the Lakers at the half, both of which led the team. Jeremiah Sparks and Ahkee Anderson both had three assists at the half. Joey Rowback, Ahkee Anderson, and Cam Chance each added two steals.

  • The Lakers were able to effectively spread the ball around, resulting in ten different players recording at least one field goal in the half.

  • Jeremiah Sparks opened up the second half with a steal, dunking in transition. Sparks then stole the ball again and got another two points on the fastbreak just seconds after his first steal..

  • The Blue Devils found life on offense, however, it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit handed to them by the Lakers.

  • A dunk in transition by Cartier Bowman with 7:10 remaining proved to be the statement needed by the Lakers. Oswego was able to hit several three-point attempts late in the second half to close out the victory.

  • Cartier Bowman had himself a night, recording a double-double. Bowman led Oswego with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks. Ahkee Anderson recorded seven points and as many assists on the evening.
