Lakers Wave Over Cardinals For Another SUNYAC Win

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Basketball team defeated the Plattsburgh Cardinals in overtime after Diamond Pickett hit two big layups in crunch time.

THE BASICS

Final Score: OT Oswego State 71 (9-2, SUNYAC 3-2), Plattsburgh 63 (3-8, SUNYAC 0-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Diamond Pickett had seven points in the first quarter, which saw Oswego outscore Plattsburgh 14-8.

  • Plattsburgh began to claw back in the second quarter. Shania Iglesias started the quarter off with two quick jumpers, but the Cardinals answered back throughout the quarter, trimming the lead to just two at the half..

  • Trailing by two entering the second half, the Cardinals only hit five shots in the third quarter, but four of them were from three point range. The Lakers also hit their only three point shot of the game, a jumper from Karleigh Leo.

  • Entering the fourth quarter, neither team had shot the ball particularly well, but Oswego made 11 free throws and the Cardinals had hit eight three pointers to keep the game tied.

  • The Lakers had their best shooting quarter of the game, hitting 33.33% of their shots in the fourth quarter.

  • The Cardinals continued to answer back in the fourth, and the game went to overtime.

  • In overtime, the Lakers were adept at drawing fouls, scoring 14 of their 18 points from the line. 

  • It started with Iglesias hitting two free throws early in the overtime period, followed by Pickett who scored the next five points.

  • Iglesias, Pickett, Leo, Elaina Johnson and Sydney Hoefs all scored during overtime, knocking down free throw after free throw. Oswego went 14-16 from the line in overtime.

  • Iglesias led the Lakers with 15 points, Pickett and Logan Castiglione both had 14 points each. Leo and Johnson both had nine.
