BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Women's Basketball team defeated the Buffalo State Bengals to get back in the win column by a score of 73-66. Oswego never trailed in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lakers led 26-18 after the first quarter after shooting 44.4% from the field. Shania Iglesias led Oswego with nine points in the first quarter. Karleigh Leo added eight points as well.

Oswego hit four threes in the first quarter.

The Lakers continued the success in the second quarter and extended their lead to 41-30. Iglesias added two more points to her total for the game.

Oswego shot 41.2% from the field and 42.9% from three point range in the first half.

The Lakers also out-rebounded the Bengals 30-21 over the first two quarters.

Buffalo State attempted to get back in the game in the third, but the Lakers limited the damage and kept a nine-point lead entering the fourth.

Diamond Pickett led the way for Oswego in the third quarter with five points, bringing her total to 15 with ten minutes left.

Sydney Hoefs started off the quarter with a good jump shot to extend the lead to 11 points.

Diamond Pickett hit two shots, the first a layup off a long assist from Iglesias, to raise the lead to 14.

The 14-point lead would be necessary, as the Bengals made a run late in the fourth to bring the score to 65-60 with 1:23 left.

Logan Castiglione hit two big free throws with 1:19 to give the Lakers a seven-point cushion they would not surrender. At the final buzzer, after all of the fouling and timeouts, the Lakers walked out of Buffalo with a 73-66 victory.

Diamond Pickett ended the game with 22 points, leading all scorers.

Oswego out-rebounded the Bengals 66-47.

Shania Iglesias had 16 points and led the Lakers with four assists.

Karleigh Leo and Logan Castiglione also contributed 13 points each in the victory.
WHAT'S NEXT
The women will travel to Potsdam to tangle with the SUNY Potsdam Bears on December 10. The Lakers will look to continue their good start to the season.
