Women's Basketball Earns Tenth Win of The Season

ALFRED, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Basketball earned their tenth win of the season after defeating the Alfred State Pioneers in a game that was not close down the stretch.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 60 (10-2, SUNYAC 3-2), Alfred State 40 (3-6) 

Location: Orvis Activities Center, Alfred, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Caite Lilly led the Lakers in the first quarter with four points scored in the final two minutes. At the end of the first quarter Oswego led 11-9.

  • Peyton Daeffler scored a quick four points to begin the second quarter.

  • Alfred State attempted to narrow Oswego's lead, but a few points from Julia Logana and Claire Skowronski fended off the second quarter Pioneer charge.

  • Oswego led at halftime 19-16.

  • The third quarter separated the Lakers from Alfred State, as they exploded for 28 points in the third quarter.

  • Shania Iglesias and Karleigh Leo started off the quarter with a three pointer each, and the Lakers were off and running.

  • Leo really shined in the third quarter, scoring ten points with two three-pointers. Iglesias also had ten, mirroring Leo's quarter. Logan Castiglione also added six points to the Laker total.

  • Daeffler scored five points in the fourth to lead the Lakers en route to a 60-40 win.

  • Oswego's depth and bench players helped out with 21 bench points. The depth of Oswego was ultimately the difference in the game.

  • Leo led the Lakers with 14 points, and Iglesias had ten.

  • Oswego limited their turnovers to 13, while Alfred State turned it over 33 times. Oswego shot the ball better, 31.5% from the field, as opposed to Alfred State's 30.6%.

WHAT'S NEXT

The women will return home to face the Buffalo State Bengals at the Max Ziel Gymnasium on Friday, January 6. The Lakers will look to push their SUNYAC record to 4-2.
