HOW IT HAPPENED
- New Paltz started strong, building a 19-8 lead by the opening minute of the second quarter.
- Behind six points from freshman Diamond Pickett and five from Caivana, the Lakers went on 13-2 run to knot the game at 21-21 with four minutes left in the second period.
- After an Elaina Johnson free throw and a Peyton Daeffler bucket, the Lakers trailed 27-24 heading into the break.
- The Lakers shot 40% in the first half to just 30% for New Paltz.
- Oswego tied the game at 29-29 on five points from Caivana with five minutes to go in the third period.
- New Paltz then went on a decisive 17-0 run across the end of the third and into the fourth quarter to put the game away.
- Pickett finished with eight points and 13 rebounds while classmate Shania Iglesias added eight points.
- Fellow newcomer Logan Nyemchek had six points and nine rebounds.
- The Lakers outrebounded the Hawks 48-37 in the contest.
