Blue Devils Upset No. 12 Lakers, 5-4

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Junior Tommy Cahill had a pair of power-play goals and an assist as the No. 12 Oswego State men's ice hockey team was upset in a road contest by the Fredonia Blue Devils, 5-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Fredonia broke through first with a goal at the 13:23 mark of the opening period.
  • The Lakers held an 11-4 advantage in shots-on-goal through the first 20 minutes of action.
  • Just 3:15 into the second period, the Blue Devils made it 2-0 with a power-play goal.
  • Cahill cut the lead back to 2-1 with Oswego's own power-play goal just 37 seconds after Fredonia's second score.
  • Senior Travis Broughman (16) and sophomore Connor Sleeth (15) assisted on Cahill's fifth goal of the season.
  • The Blue Devils added even-strength goals at 9:59 and 15:50 to extend the lead out to 4-1 and chase Laker goalie Steven Kozikoski.
  • Oswego remained the aggressor with a 46-22 lead in shots, including 23-8 on-goal.
  • Jackson Arcan looked to start a Laker rally with a goal just 1:58 into the third period, his third of the season.
  • Garrett Clegg and Cahill recorded the assists on the Arcan score.
  • Fredonia answered four and a half minutes later to keep it a three-goal lead.
  • Cahill added a second power-play goal with just under two minutes remaining in the contest on assists from Alex DiCarlo and Ben Addison.
  • One minute later, Josh LeBlanc made it a one-goal game with his third of the season from Ryan Bunka.
  • The Blue Devils held on in the closing minute of play for the 5-4 upset.
  • The Lakers took 76 shots, ended with a 40-13 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 46-24 difference in won faceoffs with Sleeth earning 20 wins.
  • This is the second win over a nationally ranked team for Fredonia as they knocked off No. 3 Geneseo in their last contest.

The Lakers will take on Buffalo State tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in Buffalo to conclude their regular season schedule.
