Lakers Fight Hard in 56-55 Loss to Brockport

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego Lakers Women's Basketball team lost a hard-fought conference matchup to Brockport on Friday night, 56-55. Freshman Shania Iglesias led the Lakers in scoring with 16 points in the losing effort, shooting 50% from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After the opening tip, Brockport claimed an 8-6 lead early on.
  • The Lakers proceeded to go on a 14-2 run, making five straight shots to go up 20-10 with 2:42 left in the opening quarter.
  • Senior Danielle Caivana contributed nine points in the quarter, shooting 3-3 behind the arc.
  • Oswego shot an impressive 58.3% from the field in the 1st frame, which accounted for their quick lead.
  • Brockport stormed back to start the second quarter, knotting up the game at 20.
  • Behind Logan Castiglione's eight points, the Lakers again endured a sizable run to take a 37-25 advantage at the break.
  • The third frame went back-and-forth with both teams showing off their scrappy play.
  • Brockport trimmed the lead down a bit, starting the fourth quarter with just a 46-39 deficit.
  • The Golden Eagles would then erase the Laker lead, pulling within two points with just over a minute remaining in the game.
  • Castiglione came up with a clutch steal with 30 seconds remaining in the game to maintain the Oswego lead.
  • With three seconds left and a one-point lead, an Oswego foul would put Brockport to the free throw line where they nailed both and took a one-point lead.
  • Oswego would muster a last-second shot attempt, but the shot would not fall.
  • Caivana (15) and Castiglione (10) joined Iglesias in double figures in points.
  • The Lakers controlled much of the game, holding onto a lead for 35 total minutes.  
  • Brockport controlled the boards with a 50-38 advantage in rebounding.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will remain at home tomorrow at 3 p.m. for a Senior Day matchup versus Fredonia and the chance to dash the Blue Devils' playoff hopes.
