Charlie Grygas finished in the top-three at the 2022 Mideast Championship and each qualify for the 2022 NCAA Division III National Championships. Both wrestlers and freshman
Jaden Hall earn All-Region honors for their performances during the weekend. As a team, Oswego finished in eleventh of the 20 colleges and universities competing at the event.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mathews put on a show in winning his final four bouts in the final seconds, including two come-from-behind victories and one sudden victory, to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
- After dropping his opening match yesterday, Mathews rebounded with a 5-3 decision and the 8-6 sudden victory on Saturday night.
- This morning, the Wappingers native was tied with New Jersey City's Matt Armamento at 1-1 with 20 seconds to go.
- Mathews got the key take down and earned 'back' points to win 6-1 and advance to the Consolation Semifinal.
- In that match against Brian Schneider of host school Elizabethtown, Mathews earned a reversal in the closing seconds to score two and win by a 5-4 decision.
- With a bid to the National Championships on the line, Mathews was down 3-2 late in the third period against Jackson Gray of Ithaca College before scoring a takedown and winning, 4-3, and finishing third.
- Grygas began his day with a 3-2 decision over Joe Paul of Johns Hopkins that earned him a spot in the final and a repeat trip to the National Championships.
- The final featured the third matchup of the season with No. 7 Demitreus Henry of Cortland, with Grygas entering ranked eighth nationally.
- In a high-scoring and entertaining bout, Henry eked out a 9-8 decision for the Regional title.
- For Jaden Hall, he dropped a pair of bouts on Sunday, but his three wins yesterday allowed him to finish in the top-eight and earn All-Region honors in his rookie campaign.
WHAT'S NEXT
Mathews and Grygas will be among the best 180 wrestlers in Division III that head to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 11 & 12 for the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.
