Lakers Fall to Bengals In SUNYAC Contest

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior Danielle Caivana led the Lakers with 18 points in their SUNYAC contest against Buffalo State. Chastin Giles scored 17, Giles shot 80% from three point range and 6-for-8 total from the field in just 21 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED

 

Q1

  • Shania Iglesias got the scoring started as she hit the first three-pointer of the contest just 27 seconds in. 
  • After almost two minutes of no scoring plays the Bengals tied the game at three's. 
  • Oswego went on a 9-2 run from 7:08-2:39, giving them the 12-5 lead.
  • The rest of the quarter went back and forth until the final 45 seconds as the Bengals scored five straight, bringing their deficit to only three (15-12).

Q2

  • Oswego held the Bengals in check until they took their first lead of the contest with 3:38 remaining in the quarter (26-24). 
  • This was in the middle of a 16-3 run in for the Bengals that ended the quarter. 
  • The Bengals led 36-27 at the end of the quarter. 
  • The Lakers didn't shoot one free-throw in the quarter. 
  • Buffalo State shot 40% from three-point range in the quarter.
  • Oswego shot 28.6% from three-point range. 

Q3

  • After a couple of baskets from Diamond Pickett and Danielle Caivana, the Lakers had cut their deficit to seven points. 
  • The Bengals out-scored the Lakers 16-7 in the quarter. 
  • Oswego went into the fourth quarter down by 16  (52-36). 

Q4

  • Chastin Giles took over in the fourth quarter, scoring nine points in just over two minutes, putting the Lakers on a 11-2 run from 9:34-7:12
  • Giles' three with 7:12 remaining brought the Green and Gold within nine points (56-47).  
  • Peyton Daeffler assisted on two of the four field goals for Giles. 
  • Oswego got within eight of the Bengals in the final quarter but were unable to stop the Bengals offense. 
  • Buffalo State ended the contest on a 6-1 run  to earn the 73-59 victory. 

Key Statistics

  • The field goal percentage was close as Buffalo State shot 39.7 from the Field while Oswego shot 32.4%. 
  • Oswego shot 30.6% from three-point range, hitting 11 three's throughout. 
  • The Lakers scored 18 second-chance points. 
  • Oswego out-rebounded the Bengals 46-44.
  • Buffalo State dropped 12 free throws compared to only two for Oswego. 
  • Pickett collected eleven total rebounds, seven offensive and four defensive boards. 
  • Elaina Johnson also collected double-digits rebounds, a well-rounded five offensive and five defensive.
